task 4

For my own photography work in task 3, I think the photos will be found on the internet and in various magazines. They are portrait photos and because of this, the styles means they could be used for modeling portfolios too.

My target audience will be anyone reading the magazines and interviews the photos are published with. The photos are co-ordinated with the subject being published such as a celebrity interview, a casual photo shoot for a fashion magazine etc.

I asked the people in my class to view my photos and give me their feedback. My feedback was very varied. They all seemed to think my photographs were good but they prefered the image of the guy making a silly face. They said they liked the element of fun that was given off in that photo instead of the seriousness and solitude represented in the other photos. There was quite a contrast between the photos.

In my photos I have used a number of different photo and composition rules.

The composition for this photo is the rule of thirds. This particular image would look great in a magazine. It could be on a double spread with writing on the wall to the left of the person. Here is an example from another magazine that it could be like:

For this photo, I have created an angle, a focal point. This means that there are leading lines. You focus on the person in the image but like in the second picture, he is looking away from the camera. The colours also have a good effect as they are plain and not too bright, it adds to the feel of being alone, secluded and having time to yourself.

The composition of this photo creates a triangle using the person’s hands and the shape of his top. It reflects fun and his eyes are looking at the camera which creates more focus. This is the photo that everyone liked the most as it was fun, creative and not so serious.

I think I have done an okay job with my photographs but I could have done more with photoshop. I should have been a bit more adventurous. Though my photos are at an okay level, I still have a lot of trouble with photoshop as I do have only basic skills.

In this module I have learnt many different aspects about photography. It’s not as easy as people expect it to be. It is not just taking a camera and pressing a button, there is so much more to know. I have learnt what is good, what works is specific photos and what doesn’t. I have also learnt that the position and angle of different photos can portray different ideas and different viewpoints to the person looking. They all can give separate impressions.
